LRHS Latin Club studies artifacts first hand

(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – The LRHS Latin Club went on their first field trip April 15. The members have been planning for this trip since November and have researched pieces of Roman and Greek inspired artwork ever since. Scott Baker, freshman, said, “Being able to compare different pieces of art from different time periods was my favorite part of the field trip.”.

Mustangs can tell the value of foreign language

(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – LRHS provides three languages on campus for students to choose from. While taking a foreign language is not required to graduate, many colleges require two years or more of a language. One student who has taken a foreign language for over three years is senior Molly Mendoza.

Mustangs extend birthday wishes to iconic toy

(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – The Iconic Barbie doll celebrates her 58th birthday today. Mattel Inc. first manufactured the fashion doll on March 9, 1959. Ruth Handler created the doll using a German doll called Bild Lilli as her inspiration. She named the doll “Barbie” after her daughter. According to “Happy Birthday Barbie,” an article written by ABC7’s Alexia McKay, Handler said she wanted a 3D doll for girls to live out their dreams.

Latin a dead languge? Mustangs say “nullo modo”

(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – Many students when signing up for foreign language electives immediately skip over Latin as an option because they think it’s a dead language or they believe it’s too hard in comparison to Spanish or French. Current Latin students would disagree. Emily Miller, a junior in Latin 3 explained why she encourages other students to take the class.

Latin Mustangs planning, funding field trip

(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – There is a mandatory Latin Club meeting at 2:15 p.m. Feb. 7 in room 570. Club vice-president Julie Cotton, senior, said, “During the meeting we will be discussing the itinerary for the field trip, discuss the gofundme fundraiser, assign an event for the following meeting, and work on the Ancient City National Geographic puzzle.”.

Gofund the Latin Club for field trip

(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL)-The LRHS Latin Club is raising funds online for an academic field trip to the Ringling Museum the week of April 9. The transportation, however, is very expensive and the club is raising funds to help meet the cost. Vice President Julie Cotton, senior, said, “The trip is going to cost about $1,000 so we’re trying to get half of it through donations and then the other half through fundraisers at Publix and Walmart.

Latin club collecting duffel bags

(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL)- The LRHS Latin Club has a mandatory meeting at 2:15 p.m. Tuesday in room 570. The Latin Club will finish up their 4-D puzzle as well as sort out fundraising information, discuss their current volunteer “Book and a Bag” project and discuss competition. Club vice president Julie Cotton, senior, wants to remind the members that they are required to donate a duffel bag by Nov. 18 for the volunteer project.
